TRANSPORTATION
Transportation Electrification: New Mexico has been focusing on promoting electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce emissions from the transportation sector. Initiatives include the recently passed Clean Cars and Trucks rules, which include incentives for EV purchases, expanding charging infrastructure, and promoting public awareness of the benefits of electric transportation. Historic state and federal investment in EV charging infrastructure is helping to accelerate the ease with which EV drivers are able to get from point A to point B without worrying about their ability to recharge.
At the same time, combustion engine vehicles will continue to be on the road for decades to come. Creating a clean fuels market will ensure those vehicles are able to use lower-carbon intensity fuels to lower their carbon emissions.
Developing a hydrogen industry in the state will be critical in helping to decarbonize long haul trucking and industrial vehicles in multiple commercial sectors.
